We often think in extremes: victor vs. victim, empowered vs. unempowered, light vs. darkness. It's tempting to believe these are our only options—and if we're not fully one, we must be the other. But life isn't that binary. The danger in exclusive thinking is it can breed false confidence: "I'm already a victor," blinding us to growth opportunities. In reality, we're all living in shades of grey—different degrees between passiveness and proactiveness. We all have room to move toward more light, empowerment, and action.
Being proactive means owning our God-given power to act. One of our most precious earthly gifts is agency—the divine right to choose our thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and actions. We must guard this gift diligently; it's central to our progression here and in the life to come.
“Men are free… to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death…” (2 Nephi 2:27)
When we give away our agency—passively letting circumstances, others, or fear dictate—we feel unsettled, powerless, and victimized. True fulfillment and spiritual refinement come from intentionally owning our autonomy.
As someone who empowers women, I see this often: many want to be more proactive but don't know how—or don't recognize when they're being passive. Awareness is the first loving step. If any of these signs "pierce" your heart, see it as an invitation to grow, not condemnation.
These patterns show up when we're more reactive or passive:
Perfection paralysis—freezing because things aren't "just right"
Difficulty caring for self (neglecting needs out of guilt or overwhelm)
Struggling to admit or accept mistakes
Blaming self or others instead of owning responsibility
Believing answers are "out there" (external fixes only)
Inability to act independently
Chronic indecision and self-doubt
Constantly seeking validation or advice from others first
Hiding, complaining, taking offense easily, or being overly sensitive
Fear, pessimism, weakness, depression, scarcity mindset
Feeling dark, down, defeated
Expecting drama and distress as normal
The more these dominate, the more life feels heavy and chaotic.
Proactive living brings simplicity, joy, and holiness:
Collaborative and community-minded
Taking independent, decisive action
Discerning and confident in choices
Effective, consistent self-care
Believing answers can be found within (through God)
Taking full responsibility for decisions and confidently seeking solutions
Seeking validation and guidance from God first
Influencing and leading others with foresight
Confident, self-reliant, brave, positive, strong, grateful, resilient, abundant, self-aware
Feeling bright, hopeful, creative, successful
Committed to self-education
Seeing opportunities where others see obstacles
The more proactive we become, the happier, holier, and more organized life feels—cleaner homes, stronger relationships, clearer purpose.
Proactivity starts with self-awareness—tuning into your heart, hearing its quiet messages, and being vulnerable and honest (even when uncomfortable). Feelings drive actions; actions shape results. To uncover root thoughts and beliefs, explore gently: What am I thinking? Feeling? Choosing?
Core alignment comes from realigning beliefs to divine truth through prayer, scripture, and connection with God. He reveals:
Your true divine identity as His child
Your divine potential to create joy
Your ability to receive divine downloads and directives
Your fundamental needs: divine love and freedom to choose
Ask Him sincerely—He'll show you clearly. He's a loving Father who never withholds wisdom.
When beliefs align with God, divine self-assurance flows. Proactivity becomes easier, natural, even joyful. It gets simpler to guard agency, choose light, and act with faith.
We don't have to be fully "there" to start—we're all on a continuum. Celebrate small shifts toward proactivity; each one brings more light. Guard your agency fiercely—it's your power to create a life of fulfillment now and refine your spirit for eternity.
You have everything within you (and divine help always available) to move forward. Choose intentionally today: one honest reflection, one small action, one prayer for clarity. Miracles and happiness follow when we do.
You're capable, beloved, and needed. Let's keep progressing together—brighter, bolder, more proactive every day.
