I’ve spent years learning this truth the gentle way: true control isn’t about gripping tighter—it’s about surrendering wisely.
When we’re controlling, we’re often acting from fear—pushing, manipulating, or demanding to feel safe. But fear-focused energy tends to create exactly what we dread: unhappy relationships, rebellion, contention, and disconnection.
Controlling behavior robs others of their sacred agency. It unintentionally creates indecisive, insecure children or friends who struggle to own their choices. People feel repressed, manipulated, or responsible for our happiness—and eventually, they pull away or push back. The power struggle leaves everyone drained.
At its root, control is fear in disguise.
We fear the gap between where we are and where we want to be. We fear mistakes, pain, delays, or things not going “right.” We fear losing importance, love, or security.
So we try to force outcomes—believing if everything aligns with our way, happiness will follow.
But deep down, it’s self-focused: “If I’m right/important/needed, then I’ll be okay.”
Over time, this erodes empathy, breeds intolerance, and leaves us feeling burdened rather than blessed.
Surrender isn’t giving up—it’s merging your will with God’s.
When we release the need to micromanage, we open to synchronicity, extraordinary outcomes, and deeper joy.
Jesus taught this beautifully:
“Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends…” (John 15:15)
In that friendship with God, we move from striving to flowing—from controlling to co-creating.
You can control:
Your own choices
Your thoughts and beliefs
Your feelings and actions
You cannot control:
Others’ choices
Others’ thoughts and beliefs
Others’ feelings and actions
Results or consequences
When we focus only on what is truly ours, peace returns. We stop carrying what was never ours to hold.
Build a strong, daily relationship with God. Seek His peace, security, and guidance first. Let divine love fill your fundamental needs.
Know and love yourself deeply. Heal self-suppression, self-sabotage, and self-doubt. Trust your worth isn’t tied to outcomes or approval.
Trust that God’s got this. Release the illusion that you must manage every detail.
Clarify your purpose. Love, encourage, and point others toward God—without owning their journey.
Act as inspired, then release attachment. Don’t hold others responsible for your happiness.
Believe in goodness. See yourself and others as well-intentioned children of God.
Accept differences as beautiful. They enrich the world—let people be themselves.
Shift from authoritarian to authoritative. Move from distrust/control to trust/guidance—especially with children as they grow.
Love unconditionally—no strings, no scorekeeping.
Observe and honor their unique gifts and path.
Ask God for inspiration on how to encourage without interfering.
Think outward: “What’s best for their growth?”
Let them struggle and learn safely—mistakes are divine teachers.
Allow natural consequences without added shame or rescue.
Set them free by not correcting every detail.
Speak with respect and clarity—no shaming, no manipulation.
As children mature, release decision-making step by step.
These oils help calm fear, open trust, and restore inner peace (apply diluted over heart/solar plexus, inhale during prayer, or diffuse while reflecting):

Being in control without being controlling is simply this: anchoring in God’s love so deeply that you no longer need to grip outcomes or people.
You become a steady, joyful presence—trusting divine timing, honoring agency (yours and theirs), and allowing love to flow freely.
The result? Deeper peace, stronger relationships, lighter burdens, and more authentic joy—for you and everyone around you.
You don’t have to carry it all.
God is a perfect parent—He’s guiding, refining, and loving every soul (including yours).
Surrender the need to control, and watch miracles unfold in their perfect way. You are safe. You are loved. You are enough.
Let go with grace, and let Him hold what’s beyond your hands.
