One of the quickest and most effective ways to support your health is simple: stay hydrated. This becomes even more important when you're making big changes to your body — like starting a detox or any major health reset.
A lot of people tell me, “I’m just not a water drinker.”
When I hear that, red sirens start going off in my head and my heart!
If plain water doesn’t appeal to you, try adding a few drops of your favorite essential oils. I personally love Wild Orange, Lemon, or Lime. Ginger is another one that tastes great to me.
If you don’t feel thirsty and you’re not in the habit of drinking much water, it could mean your body’s thirst mechanism has switched off. The good news? Make a conscious effort to drink anyway — and soon your natural thirst signal will turn back on.
Remember, we’re made up of mostly water. So many everyday “health problems” and symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated just by properly hydrating the body. Kids’ behavior often improves too when they get into the habit of drinking water regularly.
Here are some quick facts to help you take more control of your health:
More than half of your body weight is water
Your body needs water to regulate temperature, remove waste, lubricate joints, and support brain function
You lose water every day through urine, sweat, and even breathing
Vomiting and diarrhoea can cause rapid water loss
Adding 1 drop of Lemon oil and 1 drop of Peppermint oil to your water can help your body absorb it better — and may help reduce occasional leg cramps during sports
Common signs of dehydration: dark or strong-smelling urine, dry mouth, fatigue, headaches, confusion, dizziness, and light-headedness
Sip filtered water throughout the day
Organic coconut water is incredibly hydrating
Invest in a good water filter that removes fluoride. Fluoride has been linked to lower IQ levels in children, reduced attention and focus in both kids and adults, and potential nerve damage in the brain. It can also affect the thyroid and weaken spinal health.
Carry a glass or high-quality stainless steel drink bottle with you everywhere so you can sip water consistently. Add a drop or two of mint, citrus oils (or both) to make it more enjoyable and support better absorption.
