Hi Honey!
You’ve heard all the warnings about sugar, right? Everyone says it’s bad for you… but do you really know why it’s so harmful? And how on earth are you supposed to cut it out completely when it tastes so good?!
Yes, sugar can be very damaging to your body. In many ways, it metabolizes similarly to alcohol. It can harm your liver the same way excessive drinking does. Sugar feeds fungus (like Candida), which triggers inflammation that breaks down your tissues over time. It also promotes excess fat storage and puts unnecessary stress on your organs. High sugar intake has been linked to hypertension, pancreatitis, obesity, and even fetal insulin resistance.
But I know what you’re thinking — “Sugar is so addictive! How can I possibly give it up?”
Here’s the good news: we can take a more balanced, practical, and pleasant approach.
Not all sugars are created equal.
The refined, bleached, and synthetic sugars are the real problem — they’re toxic to the body. However, the natural sugars found in whole foods from nature are very different. Don’t panic… keep reading!
Most sugars in nature come bundled with their complementary fibers, enzymes, and nutrients, which help your body metabolize them properly. Think about it — a sugar cane is literally a fibrous stick! You can only suck on it for so long before you feel satisfied. White table sugar, on the other hand, has had all those beneficial fibers stripped away.
Bananas are a great example. Yes, they contain natural sugar (about 15g in an average banana), but I wouldn’t avoid a banana the same way I’d avoid a Snickers bar (which has around 20g of added sugar in just 1.56 oz). Fruit sugar comes with vitamins, minerals, and fiber that your body actually needs. When your body is healthy and in tune, it naturally reaches satiety and won’t crave endless amounts of sweetness. Trust your body!
Breathe a sigh of relief — you’re allowed to enjoy the simple pleasure of sweetness in your life without guilt. Nature has provided beautiful, natural sources of happiness for us to enjoy in moderation.
If you’re dealing with a serious illness, it’s wise to cut sugar drastically until your body recovers. For most of us though, a gentle, holistic approach works best — just like with everything else in health.
Cleanse First When you cleanse your body of harmful levels of Candida and other fungi, your cravings often decrease dramatically. Once the fungus is no longer “hijacking” your brain and body, the constant urge for sugar tends to fade.
Diet & Environment Plan your meals thoughtfully and shop wisely. If sugar-laden foods aren’t in your home, you’re far less likely to eat them. Out of sight, out of mind!
